Phonics for kids Phonics is one of the most effective methods of teaching the kids to read by using relating the different sounds with the symbols of the alphabet. Easy phonics for kids helps the children to read and decode the words. To understand the sound of each individual alphabet and then learn to join them together to make a word. Further learning leads to the writing of words. When the kids start to understand the sounds and how they work together they start to understand the words more and it becomes easy for them to both read and write. When a kid is about three to four years old, they start trying to identify different small, easy words. The interesting fact here is that phonics is not just for the small kids, they are also very helpful for the younger kids at around age ten and eleven. It works great for them too. One of the main reasons we see some elder kids not being able to write and read properly is that they were never introduced to phonics in the right way. The method of teaching applied to them was not effective enough and lacked some very basics. This problem becomes a big tension for the kids as they proceed in their studies. Therefore, it is necessary that the kids are taught well from the very beginning. In the present times, as the competition gets more and tougher, phonics has become an essential part of the basic learning. It is used to allow the children to associate the alphabets with their sounds. How can you use phonics to teach your kid? 1. Start with the basic ‘A’ Make some simple words by using A. use it in different words so that the kid understands the different sounds that the alphabet can have depending on the word. For example, mat, cat, airplane, etc. Don’t use any complex words. Limit the words to three letters only. 2. Use an alphabet puzzle Use a puzzle that is colorful and attractive to the kids. Then use each piece one at a time while pronouncing its sound and putting it in the right place in the puzzle. This way the child will learn while he plays. 3. Use pictures Now that the child is somewhat familiar with the words start using pictures. Relate the pictures with the words that are being said. The kid will be better able to understand the meaning of being the words. 4. Use the rhyming words Cat, bat, hat. All are rhyming words. At this stage, your child must be familiar with a few words. To better understand the sounds, he should be able to relate the two same sounds. So, use the rhyming words here. It will be more interesting for the kids. Always encourage the participation of your kid. Appreciate when he says something right and doesn’t get mad if he is just not able to say something right. Give the kid the time he needs, and he will eventually learn things. Your good teaching will ensure a better future for your child.
