The ADCC Arizona Open 2023 took place on August 5th, 2023 and some of the best grapplers from all around the USA were featured in the results. MMA legend Benson Henderson competed in the 83kg weight class but he was unable to make it to the podium, and in the end it was Andy Varela who won that division. Varela wasn’t the only ADCC veteran who decided to enter the tournament either, as the 76kg weight class saw Oliver Taza storm to victory with 4 submissions in 6 wins. His teammate at New Wave Jiu-Jitsu was actually the one walked away with the biggest victory of the day, as Dan Manasoiu won both the over 100kg division and the absolute division. Across both the brackets that Manasoiu competed in, he won a convincing 11-0 victory on points in his first match before submitting the other 8 opponents he faced. There was other impressive performances elsewhere too, with Deandre Corbe and Ryan Aitken winning gold at under 70kg and under 91kg respectively. Faye Cherrier put on a show in the smallest of the women’s weight classes at under 50kg, winning gold against some really tough opposition. There was only one woman who walked away with two gold medals at the event though, as Alex Enriquez won the absolute and the under 60kg division with 4 submissions in 5 matches.
