Yellow Rice

Yellow Rice(n.): a story about a girl and her mother Shelley Silawati is a second-generation Indonesian-American college student with her own special way of seeing things. To her, the world is nothing but a walking dictionary full of complex beings that can be reduced to simple, comfortable words. When her mother throws a rosary at the family home in celebration of her return from college, Shelley must brave the discomfort she feels in her Indonesian community and the language barrier between her and her mother to have a real conversation about her recent diagnosis.
