Southern Discomfort explores white southerners' love affair with the Confederacy and why racism persists in the Deep South. Using footage from Civil War reenactments and reenactors, southern 'heritage groups,' White nationalist groups, history scholars, and White and Black community members from the region, it documents why many in the south are lost in a distorted and racist history. It also explores how state governments in the south actively work to perpetuate that same distorted and racist history.
